Specialized Acupuncture Care in Winnipeg

A palpation-guided, shallow-needling approach that may be considered when care is focused on localized muscular and soft-tissue tension, myofascial trigger points, scar-related restrictions or reduced mobility.

What Is SNAN Acupuncture?

SNAN Acupuncture, formerly known as Mini Ren Acupuncture, is a palpation-guided, minimally invasive acupuncture technique developed by Dr. Guojian Huang. SNAN stands for Shallow Needling Anti-Nodule Acupuncture.

The approach uses a very small, fine-edged needle with precise, controlled shallow needling at carefully assessed areas of soft-tissue tension. These areas may include palpable muscle nodules, taut bands, myofascial trigger points and scar-related restrictions.

How Is It Different?

SNAN Acupuncture focuses on locating clinically relevant areas of soft-tissue tension through careful palpation and, when appropriate, simple movement assessment. Treatment is then directed toward the specific areas identified during the assessment.

It may be used on its own or incorporated into a personalized acupuncture treatment plan. Your practitioner will recommend an approach based on your concerns, comfort and treatment goals.

SNAN Acupuncture may be considered when care is focused on:

  • Localized muscular or myofascial tension
  • Scar-related soft-tissue tightness
  • Movement or mobility restrictions
  • Plantar fasciitis and heel or foot discomfort
  • Sinus congestion
  • Whiplash-related neck tension and headaches
  • Migraines and recurrent headache concerns

Frequently Asked Questions

Is SNAN Acupuncture the same as Mini Ren Acupuncture?

Yes. SNAN Acupuncture is the current name for the approach formerly known as Mini Ren Acupuncture. SNAN stands for Shallow Needling Anti-Nodule Acupuncture.

Is SNAN the same as regular acupuncture?

It is an acupuncture technique, but it places particular emphasis on palpation, soft-tissue findings and precise shallow needling. Your practitioner may recommend SNAN alone or as part of a broader acupuncture treatment plan.

Does SNAN Acupuncture hurt?

Sensations vary. Some people may notice brief pressure, tenderness or a mild needling sensation. Your practitioner will explain the technique first and adjust treatment based on your comfort.

How do I know whether SNAN is appropriate for me?

A practitioner must first review your health history and assess your concern. If SNAN is not appropriate, another acupuncture approach or a referral to another health-care provider may be recommended.

Is SNAN Acupuncture Right for You?

Book with Maggie or May to discuss your concerns and whether SNAN Acupuncture may be appropriate for your needs.

Individual responses to treatment vary. Acupuncture is not a substitute for urgent or medically necessary care.
